Red Cross | Meeting Mondays Grades 8-12 The Red Cross Club is an extension of the local Red Cross region where you’ll be able to serve the community with your friends. Along with training and leadership development opportunities, you can choose mission-related activities in your community, while delivering lifesaving services of the Red Cross. College Essays Campus Ministry and rosary Club Art Club | Meeting Mondays Grades 11-12 Seniors and juniors are able to submit rough drafts of admission and scholarship essays and to engage in a writing workshop with Mrs. Schlesser. Students do not need to "join" this club; this is an available time. Meeting Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday Grades 2-12 Students need to attend once a week to maintain full membership, but all are welcome any day of the week regardless. Daily attendance is encouraged. Students don't need to know the rosary... We will teach you! Meeting Tuesdays Grades 6-12 Art Club will provide students an opportunity to explore, experiment, and practice with art forms beyond what is offered in the curriculum. Help Save the Next Girl | Meeting Thursdays Grades 8-12 Help Save The Next Girl is a National Non-Profit Organization that aims to protect young women and girls from predatory danger. Turn the Page | Meeting Every Second or Third Saturday Grades 8-12 Turn the Page is a program that strives to increase the literacy and knowledge of children in the Roanoke Valley. Since starting a partnership with Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in 2013, giving books to parents so that they can read to their newborns, On the third Saturday of every month, our volunteers go to each of these schools and give every person in attendance a free book and breakfast, creating an atmosphere for not only the students, but the parents to bond over a love of education and their community. STEAM Medico Creative Writing | Grades 3-5 Meeting Days: September 24, October 15, November 19, December 17, January 21, February 18, March 18, April 15 Like to be challenged? Problem Solve? Pickleball | Meetings Fridays Grades 8-12 From 4-5:30 at Virginia Western. Sessions will have brief instruction and drilling, followed by games. Art and Crafts Battle of the Books | Meeting Mondays Grades K-2 This club is limited to 16 students. Students will work on seasonal arts and crafts using various methods. We will discuss the seasons as well as the special things that happen during the different seasons. Meeting Tuesdays Grades 3-8 Students read books and come together, usually in groups, to demonstrate their abilities and to test their knowledge of the books they have read. Games and More | Meeting Mondays (2, 3, & 4 Mondays of each month) Grade 3 Students will play a variety of games, including board games, outdoor games, math games, card games, cooperative games, and computer games. Orchestra | Meeting Monday and Thursday Grades 4-6 Students will learn how to play the string instrument of their choice (violin, viola, or cello) after school during orchestra. No period music knowledge is required to sign up for this club. Students will learn how to play the instrument from step 1. Students will need to rent their own instrument to join. Cases for Smiles | Meeting Monday Grades 9-12 In the RC Cases for Smiles club, students will learn basic sewing techniques and learn how to make pillowcases. The cases will be donated to the pediatric ward at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Classics Club | Meeting Tuesdays Grades 6-8 Classics club is the celebration of all things ancient. In this club we study ancient cultures, languages, and history. We focus specifically on Rome, Greece, and Egypt. Join Classics club if you are interested in a more indepth look into Classical World through fun activities and projects. Archery Club | Meeting Tuesdays and Thursdays Grades 4-12 NASP® Archery Club is an activity that doesn’t discriminate based on popularity, athletic skill, gender, size, or academic ability. It’s a different kind of team sport. It’s open to any student. Its biggest supporters are professional educators. Teams come together around one thing: Archery. The National Archery in the Schools Program is an in-school program aimed at improving educational performance among students in grades 4th – 12th. Guitar Club | Meeting Thursdays Grades 6-12 Guitar Club is a relaxed environment for those who enjoy playing guitar with others. The goal is to have fun, learn, and share techniques. Nativity Play | Meeting - TBC We will perform at area churches in December and participate in the Roanoke Christmas Parade on Friday, December 13th. The rehearsals for this will happen in November. Little Saints | Meeting - Tuesdays Grades K-2 This club is for K-2. Cantor Club | Meeting Tuesday and Fridays Grades 6-12 Cantor Club is a club for all students 6th - 12th grade that have any interest in singing and singing at Mass. The club will learn all of the specific Cantor lines, with the opportunity to sing them at Mass later this year! We will also learn one Hymn each week to perform with the Celtics Choir each Mass. Once or twice monthly, students will learn a stand-alone piece of music to be performed at Mass after Communion. As the year progresses, we will add more music into our clubs rehearsals that is not specifically for Mass.
