Roanoke Catholic ACT test scores surge

ACT scores for Roanoke Catholic students have gone up an average 2.1 points from 2015 to 2019 and this year’s average 27.3 score is more than three points higher than the state’s.

According to the “Five Year Trends” report recently announced to the school:

Composite Score:

• 2015 | RCS 25.2, State 23.1
• 2019 | RCS 27.3, State 24.0

English Score:

• 2015 | RCS 26.2, State 22.8
• 2019 | RCS 28.7, State 23.8

Math Score:

• 2015 | RCS 22.8, State 22.8
• 2019 | RCS 24.7, State 23.3

Reading Score:

• 2015 | RCS 26.9, State 23.6
• 2019 | RCS 28.9, State 24.8

Science Score:

• 2015 | RCS 24.1, State 22.8
• 2019 | RCS 26.4, State 23.6

The ACT is an entrance exam used by most colleges and universities to make admissions decisions. Its purpose is to measure a high school student’s readiness for college, and provide colleges with one common data point that can be used to compare all applicants.

The trends report also included an assessment of “college readiness” based on ACT results. The following shows the percentage of Roanoke Catholic’s ACT-tested students who are ready for college-level coursework:

  • College English Composition: RCS 92%, State 80%
  • College Algebra: RCS 83%, State 60%
  • College Social Science: RCS 92%, State 67%
  • College Biology: RCS 92%, State 57%
  • Meeting All 4: RCS 83%, State 46%
