Roanoke Catholic’s new broadcast journalism class this week began broadcasting a morning news show on the school’s video live-streaming service, CelticsLive.com, and has now launched an online student newspaper, The Celtic Storm, that will be updated every Friday with new stories and interviews.
The Celtic Storm can be found at TheCelticStorm.weebly.com.
Taught by RCS English teacher Meredith Harper and marketing director Michael Hemphill, the class is offered as a dual enrollment course through Mary Baldwin University as “Communications 221 – Media Writing.” Both the daily broadcast and weekly newspaper are entirely student written, produced and directed.
The class’ 10 students have also taken over CelticsLive broadcasts of RCS athletic events and will soon begin developing video news stories to be featured on both the broadcasts and news site in addition to Roanoke Catholic’s social media channels.
