Roanoke Catholic School is thrilled to congratulate and recognize Mmachi Ezigbo for the honor of being named not only a Semifinalist back in September, but now a FINALIST for the 68th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.
Mmachi is among academically talented high school seniors who have earned the opportunity to continue to compete for some 7,250 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million that will soon be offered.
High school juniors entered the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists which represented LESS THAN ONE PERCENT of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.
To earn the title of Finalist, Mmachi, Mr. Michael and Mrs. Ormandy, completed a detailed scholarship application, in which they provided information about her academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated her leadership abilities, employment, and the honors and awards she has received.
An outstanding academic record throughout high school is required, as well as being endorsed and recommended by an RCS official, writing an essay, and earning SAT® or ACT® scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test, were also prerequisites to being considered for the Finalist Award. Approximately half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title.
Merit Scholar designees are selected on the basis of their skills, accomplishments, and potential for success in rigorous college studies, and we are so proud of what all of Mmachi has already accomplished, and can not wait to witness the amazing things she will continue to go on to do.
Congratulations Mmachi, from your Celtic family!
